Greater Surrender, Greater Joy

The Way to Newness of Live

Page 2

No, much of my life God did not ordain - likely, you can say the same about your life. Yet, I can see God in it all, if I choose, and God as the Mind able to bring it all together to form something more beautiful and meaningful than I dreamed possible from the vantage point of now. Indeed, my life may become more beautiful than it would have been without even the elements that now bring sadness.

Interestingly, one way for the creation of new life is the way St. John gives us - "where there is no love, put love...." And be assured, there are many persons longing for Loving. Love is the most potent energy in Nature. The only limits to Love may be doubt of the good and healing that can happen by surrender in faith and use of Such, abdicating to Its potential. What might happen to your life even today, if you knelt physically or only in spirit, and said, "This day, my Love, use me as You will?" And, then, trustingly you went your way expecting to be used as God wills, while you refused to make anything happen in that regard or set any limits to what God can do.

Do you know of a situation you can put Love into? Do you know a person who could use a word or act of Love? Possibly, to act is the start of a newness in your life - rather than your moaning about your life or waiting to be Loved. Could it be that the best way to begin transforming your life is to do such thinking and acting in Love, beginning now? - Think one Loving thought, do one Loving act, and do the same for yourself, too.

Possibly, each time we do think or act in such a Loving way, we are putting into our own lives a newness that will one day lead us to rejoice at what our lives have become. I trust this. Do you? And, possibly, some things you have lost were not for your good, though you thought otherwise, for they would have led you away from Love, not toward It. Possibly, the extent of what we lose is the measure of our journey into joyful surrender to God.

At the center of all this is a lively Faith. This morning I found some of Gandhi's words inspiring in this matter, and I offer them to you - and just think of what Love did through that one small-statured man, and how spiritual devotion animated his political action:

Who am I? I have no strength save what God gives me. I have no authority over my countrymen save the purely moral. If he holds me to be a pure instrument for the spread of nonviolence, he will give me the strength and show me the way. My greatest weapon is mute prayer. The cause of peace is, therefore, in God's hands. Nothing can happen but by his will expressed in his eternal, changeless law, which is he. We neither know him or his law, save through a glass darkly. But the faint glimpse of the law is sufficient to fill me with joy, hope and faith in the future.

I must go with God as my only guide. He is a jealous Lord. He will allow no one to share his authority. One has, therefore, to appear before him in all one's meekness, empty-handed, and in a spirit of full surrender, and he enables you to stand before the whole world and protects you from all harm.

I have been a willing slave to the most exacting master for more than half a century. His voice has been increasingly audible as the years have rolled by. He has never forsaken me in my darkest hour. He has saved me often against myself and left me not a vestige of independence. The greater the surrender to him the greater has been my joy.

Thank you for sharing with me, today, through these words of hope and confession. May the Light show you the way and guide you when all appears darkness. Yes, may darkness be as light to you, in and because of Love. May all you have lost be given again to you, transformed and manifold, that you may give more, both to others and God. May you live from Love, in Love, and to Love, in all things. Amen.
